Portentilla Bush

On the south side in full sun is a nice yellow portentilla that has been there for over a decade. Sometimes called cinquefoil, it also comes in light pink which have almost white delicate little flowers.

Portentillas like sun and a with a little bloom food, will burst into bright color which keeps blooming all summer. It's one of my favorite bushes.

I learned the hard way though, to keep the vining weeds off them. The night shade also likes the sun and gives me problems all over my yard. It chokes portentilla branches and they die off.

Fortunately cinquefoils come back with a severe cutback of affected branches and a little special care for awhile. Feed and water and keep the weeds away from a portentilla.

My neighbors don't know I took this photo (Apr.2010). I should go over and help them weed their portentilla bushes, but I am busy with my own yard.

"Subject: I LOVE YOUR WEBSITE!

My sister Karen sent your website to me today. Alas, I have found another person whose home looks like a nursery!
See the pics she sent here.

Thanks for your hints! I have two grown daughters but my flowers are my "babies".
